UNITED

Exhibition HEROES 2020

Kahmann Gallery is proud to present the exhibition 'Heroes'. This exhibition is the next collaboration between Roy Kahmann/Kahmann Gallery and Howard Greenberg Gallery New York. A selection will be presented from the Greenberg collection enriched with special and famous photographs from the Kahmann collection. Great works will be on show and include notable artists such as Dennis Stock, William Klein, Arnold Newman, Louis Faurer, Ray Metzker, Bruce Davidson, Arthur Leipzig, Marvin Newman, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Joel Meyerowitz. Additionally, outstanding names from the Dutch photography history like Gerard Fieret, Ed van der Elsken, Sanne Sannes and Ata Kandó will be present.

Greenberg is one of the world's foremost photography dealers. He is a central figure in 20th century photography and has been an acknowledged leader on the fine art market. It comes as no surprise that American Photo magazine proclaimed Greenberg as one of the 25 most important people in photography. Employing his keen eye for artistic value and a unique historical perspective, Greenberg has built a reputation for rediscovering significant photographers from the past and establishing a market for their work. He represents and exhibits photographs by many of the acknowledged masters.

Kahmann, on the other hand, is not only an entrepreneur and graphic designer but primarily an art collector. The city guide of Amsterdam, published by Louis Vuitton, described Kahmann as "one of Amsterdam's strongest advocates of photography". Together with his wife Lindy Kahmann, they own nearly 10,000 original photographic works. Their NUDE collection has been previously shown in art spaces in Hilversum and Rotterdam. Kahmann’s professional experience collecting and running his Amsterdam gallery for many years makes him a strong counterpart to Greenberg. Accordingly, the combination of Greenberg and Kahmann brings together a historical collection that should not be missed.

Exhibition | Talents 2020

  • Google Calendar ICS

As gallery we have the position to keep an eye out for the newest generation of photographers. Besides representing over more than 20 renowned photographers we believe that talents are the future and we should do what we can to support them.
The amount of talent in the Netherlands is incredible and there are so many good photography academies and educations. They are safe havens for young photographers as they are among fellow students and teachers. As soon as they are finished, they have to take care of themselves in the real world, the ART world, and that can be scary and hard. At that moment, they can use all the support they can get. That was and still is the main reason for us as a team to give them a platform to showcase their work.

We aim to boost the careers of the greatest talents in photography. Succeeding in the world of photography is mostly a matter of hard work and maintaining focus but that is not all that counts. There is also a factor of luck, timing, and exposure. Any presentation can provide just the push they need.

This year we will present a selection of 6 talents recently selected as Haute Talent. Unfortunately - for the time being - not in a gallery exhibition, but as an online show.

This might be the first time you hear of them, but it won’t be the last. In the virtual exhibition, you can already have a preview of their works. Enjoy their view and vision of making images and be inspired as much as we do.

[POSTPONED] Event | Paris Photo NY

[Postponed]
The inaugural edition of Paris Photo New York will be postponed to a later date to be announced soon.
178 of the world’s leading galleries and publishers, 100 media partners and cultural institutions, and numerous artists were confirmed to participate in the first Paris Photo New York.
In light of recent government measures taken to contain the spread of the COVID-19, our principal concern is for our exhibitors and supporters and we are convinced that this postponement is in the best interest of galleries, collectors and art enthusiasts alike.
Please refer to our website for answers to your most urgent questions.

Paris Photo, the world’s largest international art fair dedicated to the photographic medium, is happy to announce the launch of Paris Photo New York April 2-5, 2020.

Presented with the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD), the new fair will create a transatlantic hub between the two historic centers for photography – Paris and New York thus forming a collective voice and international reference for the photographic medium.

The new fair will capitalize on the strength of the American photography market by expanding and diversifying the fair’s representation of international and cutting-edge galleries and invigorating the community of curators and art professionals throughout the Americas and beyond.

Drawing from the city’s thriving arts scene and rich network of museums and organizations, the New York edition will highlight their indelible impact on the history of the medium and the recognition of its artists. Invited guest curators will organize programming, including exhibitions, conversations, to connect international leaders in the field and advance the understanding and appreciation of fine art photography.

Rendez-vous in New York next spring.

Exhibition | Pieter Henket - Congo Tales

Exhibition | Pieter Henket - Congo Tales

In the series ‘Congo Tales’, Henket took on the ambitious task to document a history that was never documented before. In the series ‘Congo Tales’, Henket presents images of the children of Odzala-Kokoua telling the oral history of the Congo in their own unique way. Shot over the course of one month, Henket documented the children of this remote region as they designed, planned, created costumes to act out a series of myths—about their tribes, their landscape, and the animals and plants that they live among. Filled with vibrant images that highlight the area’s magnificent flora and fauna, this photographic project, which was three years in the making, offers an opportunity to learn from a people who live in harmony with their direct surroundings, as well as delivering an optimistic message about trust, cooperation, and conservation from a region that is mostly known for its war-torn past and its continuing political conflicts.

Opening January 18 at 18.00
